Behind the changes coming to Cinderella Castle

Updated: May 16

Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom® Park is getting a makeover to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Cinderella, and it also happens to fall just before the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World® Resort.

Cinderella Castle has seen a number of redesigns over the years, including vandalism at the hands of Stitch and a birthday cake, but this year’s is simpler. Colors will be more vibrant, with the pink that runs up the castle’s spires more pronounced, and with gold accents added to all parts of the castle.

There is no official start or end date for the changes, but Disney said that it will begin within the next couple weeks and continue through the summer. There is no confirmation that it will be done for the start of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, but if it were to see completion by then, it is worth noting that last year’s first party was on Aug. 16. The first day of fall is Sep. 22.

This comes after Sleeping Beauty Castle received a similar update in Disneyland® Park last year. Rather than completely shifting its visual identity, the castle became a more vibrant, gorgeous version of itself.

It looks like Cinderella Castle is headed the same route.
