Universal Orlando Resort is testing a new virtual pass program to get riders onto specific, high-demand rides. Currently running for Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, the new system dramatically cuts down on wait times in queues.
The previous system saw guests reserving a limited quantity of virtual passes daily at set times throughout the day, meaning guests were required to be available at the designated times in order to get a pass. Return times saw long waits, having guests occasionally wind through queues to get to the ride itself.
Selecting the QR code around the park with your phone's camera at any time will give you a return time, featuring a countdown to you and your party's riding window. Should you occupied during your return time, you can reschedule your virtual pass for another time that day, pending availability.
In testing, the pass has provided a 30-minute window to get to the attraction entrance. There your pass is scanned and your party enters the queue, where you will walk straight through onto the ride. This new system appears to space guests out more than the previous system, reducing time spent waiting in line.
