On the near-eve of Galaxy’s Edge opening, most guests are awaiting some of Disney’s most technologically advanced attractions. Still, there’s plenty to do in the park, and there are tons of great attractions, even before Smuggler’s Run opens.
Here are the top five, in reverse in order:
5. Toy Story Midway Mania!® Attraction
I have previously professed my affection for all things competitive, and Toy Story Land’s classic attraction is no exception. There is nothing quite like swinging around to your favorite scene, 2,000 points behind the rider next to you, only to come out ahead rolling to the final scene. It is one of the most vibrant and lively rides in all of the parks, and makes for a must-do on almost every trip.
It also helps that it has one of the parks’ best queues, making it truly feel like you’re shrunk down to the size of a toy, with details abundant at every turn.
4. Slinky Dog Dash
The park’s newest coaster meets at the perfect intersection of thrills and family-friendly fun. It is smooth and tame enough for younger guests and those not as enthusiastic about thrill rides, but still has enough excitement for even the biggest ride seekers to find enjoyment. There are plenty of surprises and unique track choices along the way, but the real standout is the second launch halfway through the ride.
While great and definitely worth riding in the sun (especially to get the best possible look at Galaxy’s Edge), but is even better at night, with a few special lighting effects that add to the fun of the coaster.
3. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ Attraction
Few rides do theming and thrills better than this one. While its particular brand of excitement might not be perfect for everyone, it is impossible to walk through its queue or gift shop without having to pick your jaw off the floor. Its queue is on a level few attractions in any theme park can match, and that’s just all before boarding the iconic ride. It’s one of the ultimate thrills in all of Walt Disney World® Resort, bested by only a couple attractions property-wide.
2. Alien Swirling Saucers
The small ride tucked in the corner of Toy Story Land is perhaps the Disney theme parks’ greatest hidden treasure. It might be hard to imagine how one of the park’s newest attractions can feel like such an inside secret, but it makes plenty of sense when wait times drop and you get a chance to ride.
When talking pure, childlike fun, no other attraction comes close. The attraction is such a genuine joy, and makes for one of the most hysterical, absurd riding experiences in all of the parks.
1. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster® Starring Aerosmith
The coaster-meets-dark ride of legendary proportions, few attractions can compete in all aspects of what this renowned coaster offers. Between the music, the theming and the excitement, this coaster embodies everything right with Disney attractions. Few thrills are better than its initial launch, soon sending you into a blur of a loop unlike any of Disney’s other rides.
After all its time, it still remains a one-of-a-kind coaster that sits in the uppermost echelon of theme park experiences. It is a ride that begs for back-to-back-to-back-to-back rides, never letting up on the fun.
