Much of the Disney parks embody so many of Disney’s popular movies, from its coasters to its fireworks spectaculars. Those references are most powerful in the many stage shows in the parks, many of which meld together live music performances with theatrical acting and gorgeous sets.
The theater shows are a spectacle above many of Disney’s other great in-park films and live entertainment, and here’s the best of them:
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
This dinner-show combo merges a musical stage show with an all-you-care-to-enjoy feast of homestyle comfort food.
Sound awesome?
It is. It is rowdy, exciting and fast-paced, and aside from the loud fun of the show, the food is good, too. It’s also one of the few major shows on property located outside of the parks, and makes the trip out to the Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort more than worth it (although, it’s already a cool and unique resort all on its own). It’s best when there are younger guests in the party, but is a ton of fun for all ages.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Awesome Mix Live!
The summer show is making its rounds back to Epcot® for its sequel run this year, and it’ll likely be just as lively as ever. It only runs for a limited time (June 14-Aug. 19 for 2019), making it a cannot-miss if you’re in the parks while it’s happening.
It’s more of a concert than a true musical, and is all the better for it. Much in the same way as Hoop-Dee-Doo, it’s loaded with energy and excitement. It’s super fun, and the cast gives such phenomenal performances that you’ll find yourself thinking about it long after you’ve seen it.
Finding Nemo – The Musical
The Nemo-centric show is the performance that delves most deeply into its musical roots, presenting a full Broadway-like production with original music and live singing. It’s the longest of the stage shows in the parks, which gives it the perfect amount of time to fully develop as a theatrical production.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
I know what you’re thinking. There’s no possible way you’re sitting in a theater for half an hour while a crowd of young guests surround you and belt out Let it Go.
Okay, you might not be thinking that, but I know I was before I went through it the first time.
And I will never, ever again judge an attraction or show before I go through it the first time. It Is hysterical, gorgeous and engrossing, and is in many ways a flawless Disney stage show. The two new characters added as hosts of the show bring dynamic, impactful performances to the production, giving the story of Frozen a new layer I never knew it needed.
Festival of the Lion King
Festival of the Lion King is the perfect marriage between theater and the individuality of the Disney parks. So much can be said to laud its beauty, but its jaw-dropping performances demand to be seen as a surprise upon first viewing,
Everything from the sweeping renditions of the film’s most iconic music to the jaw-dropping performances of its entire cast exudes perfectionism in the highest sense. The show is the very definition timeless, and will undoubtedly feel both classic and modern until the end of time.
