Top 5 nighttime spectaculars

Updated: May 16

The nighttime spectaculars at Walt Disney World® Resort make for the perfect bookend to a long day at the parks. There are special ones just for the holiday parties, and brand new ones in development. With the lineup always changing, here are the ones you can’t miss in 2019:

  1. Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular

The Star Wars excitement is at an all-time high, with Galaxy’s Edge open on one side of the U.S., approaching launch on the other, the Disney+ series in development and the final installment of the films’ sequel trilogy on the way.

And this nighttime spectacular is at the center of it all. While light on the fireworks, when they’re used, it’s perfectly incorporated into the iconic, sweeping score and exciting projections.

  1. Illuminations: Reflections of Earth

This was my favorite fireworks show for most of my life, and while the technology isn’t as up to date as it once was, it still holds up as a moving, cannot-miss show. Its celebration of the world’s countries maintains a perfect tribute to the glory days of Epcot®, and still supports where it is going in the future.

However, the show’s days are numbered. With Epcot Forever and a new, yet-to-be-named show in the works, the time to enjoy one of Disney’s best spectaculars is coming to a close. The last day to see the show is Sep. 30, 2019.

  1. Kiss Goodnight

It’s the secret show most guests don’t know about, only playing after the park officially closes. Rides are closed when park hours end, but the Emporium and other Main Street, U.S.A.® Area shops remain open for another hour.

That’s when Kiss Goodnight plays, during the park’s twilight hours. It is not as big a production as most of the other shows, but rather soft and intimate. It’s a gentle closing for the few guests who remain to see it, and is the perfect way to close out any day in the Disney parks.

  1. Fantasmic! Show

No show, maybe in the history of the Disney parks, better encapsulates the word “spectacular.” Set in its own specially constructed amphitheater, it’s big, loud and full of excitement. Its music has become as recognizable as any of the other classic shows.

  1. Happily Ever After

It felt like everyone held their breath when Disney announced Wishes Nighttime Spectacular would be coming to an end. Fortunately, Disney replaced its most emotional, memorable show with one even more memorable, and even more emotionally charged.

The fireworks are great, and the melding renditions of Disney’s best tracks are powerful, but the projections on Cinderella Castle are what makes the show so special. It’s always crowded, and it’s always worth setting aside the extra to get the perfect view.
